Lombok eats in three places, and each one asks for a different plan. Kuta Lombok in the south is the busiest table in the island: Mediterranean grills, Sichuan dumplings, sourdough brunch and warungs that charge very little for nasi goreng. El Bazar cooks over a Santa Maria grill, Jiang Nan brings ingredients in from China, and Papi Sapi lets you pick your cut from the chiller.

The Gili Islands sit off the north west coast. Gili Trawangan has the range, from Ijo inside Pondok Santi Estate to Francesco's Pizza by the harbour, while Gili Air has KAI, The Spice Table and the original Mama Pizza, and Gili Meno has BASK, where dry aged beef comes off the fire.

The west coast and Mataram fill in the rest. Senggigi runs from Dapur Ina, a kampung warung under the trees, to Kokok Pletok on Sire Beach, and Mataram is where Sate Rembiga Ibu Sinnaseh chars beef soaked in Lombok spices.
