How rankings work

Two spots at a time

When you vote, you see two venues. Choose the one you would rather go to. That is one vote. No stars, no written reviews, just a choice.

A score that learns

Every venue has a score, worked out the same way chess ratings are. Beating a highly ranked spot earns more than beating one near the bottom, and newer venues move faster until they settle. The All time ranking is simply every venue ordered by that score.

Trending

Trending shows the venues getting unusually high attention this week, from votes, saves, visits and diner actions, compared with each venue's own normal level. Busy venues cannot sit there forever just by being busy.

New

New shows venues that opened in the last 120 days, newest first.

All time

All time is the overall ranking: every voted venue ordered by its score.

Vote for a favourite

Voting for a favourite adds one vote to People's Choice and gives a small, capped boost. Rankings are built from head-to-head votes.

Member voting power

Anyone can vote on Supper Social. Guest votes carry standard voting weight, while verified Supper Social members receive 2x voting power. This rewards ongoing community participation while keeping voting open to everyone.

One person still gets one vote per eligible voting action. The 2x benefit changes ranking weight. It does not allow members to vote twice, and vote counts shown on the site are always real votes. Rankings can never be bought or influenced by commercial work.

Keeping it fair

• We choose every matchup, and each phone sees venues evenly. Votes sent without a matchup we served do not count.
• Votes cast with a filter count less: half with one filter, a quarter with both an area and a type. Small pools are easier to push.
• Votes from a phone that hops between several foreign countries (a VPN) are quietly left out of the rankings for 48 hours. Switching between Wi-Fi and a foreign SIM in Bali is fine.
• Votes from countries known for paid click farms never move the rankings, and bursts from abroad are flagged.
• Suspicious patterns from one device are flagged. Guests sharing venue wifi are never penalised for that alone.
• Flagged votes can be removed and their effect reversed.
• Nobody can pay for a position. Sponsored content is labelled, and it never touches the rankings.

The rules for voting are in our Terms of Use.
