Top Places in the Gili Islands
A short guide to eating across the three Gilis, each a short boat ride from the next. On Gili Trawangan, Ijo is the occasion: candles, palm trees and a menu that moves between Indonesian and Western cooking with the seasons, using the estate's organic garden. Pearl Beach Lounge shelters under a bamboo roof shaped like a breaking wave, and Kayu Cafe & Boulangerie bakes fresh bread on the main path near the harbour. Gili Air brings the most variety per metre. KAI, The Spice Table plans degustation menus around the Spice Route, including a seven course option, and covers are limited. Pachamama brews its own kombucha behind the beach road, Mowie's grills snapper and seared tuna on the sand, and Mama Pizza bakes wood fired sourdough looking out to the beach. Gili Meno has BASK, a beach club with pool access that turns into a fire kitchen with dry aged Australian beef. Back on Trawangan, Casa Vintage Beach is cash only, and Pizzeria Regina is always full.
