Where to Eat on Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan packs a lot of eating into an island you can cycle round, and the trick is knowing which side to head for. The harbour and the east coast are where the crowds are. Francesco's Pizza and Pizzeria Regina handle the pizza, one opposite the market and one a street back, and Kayu Cafe & Boulangerie bakes bread and cakes on the main path. The Shack, down Jalan Ikan Paus, is the brunch room, with vegan dishes clearly marked and a pool bar downstairs. The south shore has the views to Mount Rinjani. Scallywags lays out prawns, lobster and steaks for the grill, and Pearl Beach Lounge sits under its wave shaped bamboo roof. Head north for quieter tables. Jali Kitchen serves rendang and nasi goreng in a garden about fifteen minutes on foot from the harbour, and Tiki Grove, around the corner, pairs tacos with rum in cut down bottles. Casa Vintage Beach, beside Gili Teak, cooks jerk chicken for cash only. Ijo, inside Pondok Santi Estate, is the one to book for a big occasion.
