Bird Land Ginza

Japanese · Restaurant · Ginza · $$$$

Toshihiro Wada grills Okukuji shamo chicken over charcoal in a Ginza basement, and the Michelin Guide lists Bird Land for it. The yakitori sets bring liver pâté, the prized chicken oyster and pepper grilled cuts, before an oyakodon of chicken and egg closes things out. Japanese yakitori with polish, a few steps from Ginza's main crossing.

An excellent yakitori experience in Ginza. We went for the omakase set, and every course was beautifully prepared, with a great variety of chicken cuts and cooking techniques. The quality of the ingredients really stood out, and the flavors were simple but incredibly refined. The atmosphere is intimate and traditional, making the whole experience feel special. Definitely a place I’d recommend for anyone looking for a more elevated yakitori experience in Tokyo.

Time of visit: May 2022 A hidden underground yakitori spot worth finding 👍 Yakitori BIRD LAND Ginza is a hidden underground yakitori spot in Tokyo that is difficult to find but worth the effort. The restaurant serves high-quality skewers and well-executed chicken dishes in a lively counter setting. Prices are not cheap, but the overall experience feels fair for the quality.

This is an exceptionally good chicken yakitori meal in Tokyo. My mouth was literally alive with layers of diverse flavors at the end of so many perfectly crafted and executed rounds of skewers. Great execution. It was new for me as a foreigner to eat chicken ingredients like heart and skin, but I would encourage any guest to try as much as they feel comfortable trying. Because every new bite was delicious and exceeded expectations. It is a privilege to get to taste so many parts of one animal cooked to showcase them best. The kitchen is in the center of the room, which creates a warm, convivial, and entertaining feeling. PS I showed up a little early for the first seating and found the gates locked with a sign to enter elsewhere. I wandered for 15 minutes trying to find an alternative entrance, only to find the entry gate had probably opened right on time. 🤦🏼 So just wait a few minutes if you find the gate locked.

We were fitted in without reservation within 20 minutes (thank you!). Service and food were amazing. Small quiet place with attentive staff. The chicken liver was divine. 3 tiny concerns: 1. No prices for the skewers on the menu 2. Their sodas (tiny bottles) cost more than anywhere else in the country I’ve seen (800 Yen or more). 3. Most importantly, although their beer is quite delicious (both their own brew and their dark malt) come in sort of small glasses, which isn’t an issue, but 1. 900-1200 yen per and 2. And most critical of all - the staff does not know how to pour without getting half the glass full of foam (which again whatever), but they serve the glass about 1/4 empty. If you’re going to charge that much for small glasses of beer, they should be brimming with the delicious liquid. Very good overall. For two hungry people expect to pay over 20k yen (yes I was shocked).
