In Hiro, Shibuya, Sassa serves kaiseki with a sushi chef's sense of timing, a style that has earned one Michelin star. Signatures include an abalone risotto, and the chef's years in Shanghai surface in the pu'er tea poured alongside. Japanese cooking that wanders a little, in a quiet corner of Shibuya close to Ebisu.

I recently had an exceptional dining experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. The flavors were remarkable and beautifully paired, showcasing the chef's skillful blend of Japanese and Chinese cuisine—a testament to his time spent in China for culinary growth. Here are a few of my favorite dishes from the meal: Ankimo (Steamed Monkfish Liver) dish was seasoned to perfection and paired exquisitely with wasabi and Japanese pickles. The flavors were simply exquisite. The Cod Fish Shirako was seemingly remarkably seared to perfection, the shirako offered a fabulous aroma and exploding with flavour that enhanced the overall dining experience. The Devil Stinger featured a surprisingly delightful chewy texture. The Mandai Sashimi was exceptionally fresh and flavorful, this sashimi boasted great texture, particularly when complemented with a sprinkle of salt. The Flounder Sashimi was prepared exceptionally well, the flounder had a unique texture, enhanced by a special soy sauce seeminly infused with the subtle flavor of dried tangerine peel (not sure) The Shabu Shabu Tsukinowaguma (Bear Paw), while I have had bear meat before, this was my first experience with bear paw and find it tasty. It was delicious, exhibiting a texture reminiscent of premium shabu-shabu pork. The Spicy Kiji with rich had an incredible aroma, seemingly incorporating some Chinese frying style ingredients and techniques. The texture was slightly firm, and the saltiness paired wonderfully with rice. Overall, this meticulously crafted and thoughtfully curated course left a lasting impression. I would love to visit again in a different season!

Fantastic hybrid of Japanese cuisine and Chinese style/ingredients. I brought parents here and had very good experience. Chef and staff are friendly and kind. Need reservations in advance but not difficult to book

Thanks Sassa San for providing us with an exceptional dinner which we very much enjoyed. The flavours were amazing and well paired. Our favourite was the Abalone risotto with punchy flavours and perfectly textured Abalone and that is rare in itself. Grilled snapper was seasoned to perfection with accompanying Kombu stock accentuated it's natural flavour. pairing between sesame and Uni was also exceptional while the ginkgo seed provided texture and ever so slight and pleasant bitterness. Overall, best Kaiseki I have had so far. Keep up the wonderful work. We hope to visit again in a different season. Mixed feelings about posting this review, hope it doesn't become 'too popular' among the foodies so we can have a chance booking this place. Definitely worth the $$. P.S. Omasake pairing of sake was also exceptional from a wide selection of distilleries and flavour profiles.
