Kuta Lombok is small enough to cover on a scooter and busy enough to need a plan. Here is a short list, built around what you feel like eating. For a proper dinner, El Bazar is the long running choice on Jalan Raya Kuta, with Moroccan and Mediterranean plates off a Santa Maria grill and a courtyard out back. Markisa, at Rawa Lombok, opens with a whole loaf and olive oil, then aubergine crostini, calamari fritti and grilled yellowfin tuna. Papi Sapi suits the hungry: choose your cut from the chiller, then the sides. Jiang Nan is the Sichuan option, and it is worth booking. Mama Pizza bakes sourdough under a mango tree, and Elamu cooks Greek food from family recipes.
