One skewer, one lifetime is the house motto at Torikaze, the yakitori concept of Tokyo master Yoshiteru Ikegawa, who apprenticed at Toriyoshi. Chef Ryo Matsui grills over Kishu binchotan high in Gloucester Tower, with local three yellow chicken on the omakase and oyakodon or chicken broth somen on the shorter menu. Japanese yakitori in Central, fairly priced for the address.

Hands down the best yakitori in town 🔥 Once you try it, you’ll understand why the waiting list is always long. They use premium Kishu binchotan charcoal and Hong Kong-raised Three-Yellow Chicken for the meat skewers. Even the simple cuts are super juicy! They also import quality Japanese chicken innards for the best flavour and safety. Everything was amazing, especially the gizzard, knee and back liver. No cap, next level! 😭 Time saving notes ($780pp): Appetizers Strawberry & Lily Bulb Tofu Miso Sauce New Onion Chicken Soup Mains Chicken Inner Thigh 🤯Oyster Breast 🤯Gizzard Yellow Beetroot Gizzard Edge | Broad Bean, Canola Flower & Mustard Miso Sauce Shoulder Fillet Brussel Sprout Snap Pea Wing Clay Pot Rice Burdock & Lotus Root Clay Pot Rice (soup 🔥) Dessert Milk Ice Cream with Setoka Orange Add on 🤯Knee $60 🤯Back liver $70 🤯Neck $70 Skin $60

We could not find a spot for dinner, but managed to book for lunch at 12pm on a Friday. The reception is on the 43 floor and the reception staff took a bit of time to lead individual group of customers one by one to the right restaurants on the upper floors. The dining area of Torikaze was quite large and open. They have a lower chair bar setting that caters for about 18 customers, and there are two private rooms which can house for up to six customers each I guess. They only provide four set menus for lunch with price range between $340 and $480, and do not allow additional order of skewers. However, customers are allowed to order extra main alone ie rice and noodles. The first couple of skewers were surprisingly well with good smell of charcoal. Somehow the rest of skewers were either marginally undercooked or not crispy as they should for yakitori. The minced chicken rice with Onsen egg was a pleasant surprise. Frankly, for its location and setting, the price is expected to be higher than other yakitori shops in Hong Kong. If customers look for a high end setting yakitori place, this is it. To true yakitori fans who prefer a cozy and noisier ambience that allows chatting with the chefs and friends, it does not offer such vibe. The Japanese chefs follow the Japanese culture and send guests out of the door personally. Overall speaking, it was a nice experience which is a little different from the shop in Tokyo run by their Master.

For people that like the taste of charcoal grill, this is the place (of coz be aware if u don’t). Locally sourced three-yellow chicken are used, guaranteed Michelin level food source. Only draw back is only three extra orders are allowed, other than the set menu (you would like to have more).

A yakitori restaurant with nice environment. The restaurant is quite quiet and food is delicious. First you can taste the chicken because they use fresh chicken. Second, they do not put too much seasoning and not salty. Price is quite reasonable.
