Must do for sushi lovers who want to try the fish as fresh as possible. Woke up at 3am to take the taxi to wait in line to get the earliest seating but could have probably gotten away with 4am. The meal was a showcase of what was fresh that season (in summer so abalone, octopus was present) but they never leave out the tuna which almost could be mistaken for wagyu if you looked hard enough. Much easier for smaller groups, bigger groups may need to eat later but they have a convenient waiting system to grab a time slot at their front desk. Somewhere you should consider waiting for every time you're in Tokyo.

I would describe this spot as a very casual and a great entry point for an omakase experience. At the end of the omakase, you get to choose one of any nigiri of your choice. We were served by a female sushi chef which is an absolute honour. Japan’s sushi chefs had always been predominantly male centric and some say it’s because Japan’s male sushi chefs don’t accept female apprentices therefore practically making it impossible for them to start. Seeing this, it’s nice to see this accepting atmosphere here at Sushi Dai. I remember waking up at 5AM just to be the first wave in but it now seems that people start lining up at 3AM which is even crazier now.
4.0Kevin Fong· 3 months agoWas really great food. My first omakase ever and it did not disappoint. I was already jet lagged and used that to my advantage and got a cab there and got in the pseudo line on the 3rd floor causeway where they ask you to wait until they let people in at 5. At 5, a gentleman comes and grabs people who are there for sushi Dai. At that point, he walks you in and asks when you want to dine and takes your party and asks for dietary restrictions (mostly if you can eat shellfish). Then you can wander around until it opens at 6am. You get 8 courses +1 you can select from a special menu. You can also just add more a la cart as well. Best bites to me were the fatty tuna, Spanish Mackerel, and black mouth cod. They also serve you a mini omelette and seafood miso soup (careful, there's bones in it). I added on the uni for additional cost which was really buttery and amazing without much of the irony taste. I may try to do it again before I go home this trip

Interestingly I tried a few of the other sushi places nearby as well (that entire floor of the building is mostly just little sushi restaurants) and they were also very delicious—next time I’m in the area I’d prob just get my sushi fix from those places. In addition to what others posted about the lineup at Sushi dai I got some extra pieces- sea urchin was very fresh and creamy, monk fish liver was my favorite, grilled tuna cheek also delicious and perfect soft texture, and I surprisingly loved the abalone as well.
