  • Visited Butagumi in Nishi-Azabu, a renowned tonkatsu restaurant selected among Tabelog’s Top 100. I reserved dinner and ordered the rare Meishan pork fillet cutlet with a draft beer. The thick fillet was cooked thoroughly, yet remained tender and full of rich pork flavor. The crisp, light coating paired especially well with rock salt. The traditional wooden interior also adds plenty of character. A great place to experience premium Japanese tonkatsu.

  • Wow that was amazing. Ordered way too much food but totally worth it. Made a booking from tablelog to 7:30pm on a Tuesday, though there were a few empty tables so maybe not a must. Ordered 1 loin tonkatsu and one pork belly tonkatsu with sides of tomatoes, pickles, miso, curry and yuzo sauce and a glass of sake for a total of 11000 yen. Finished everything but was not easy :) On the one hand both tonkatsu had similarities so maybe you can get just 1 of them but I really enjoyed the fatty pork belly one while it was nice to also have less fatty one to alternate.

  • I found this little vintage house 15 mins walk from the Tokyo National Art Museum and decided to give it a try based on the Google reviews. And I was kind of disappointed. I wouldn’t say it is of good value. It costs 300 HKD for a basic pork chop set. The side dishes are very nice. But the fried pork chop was not the best ones I have had in Japan … and there are more cheaper options available in other areas. The pork is not juicy and it’s a bit soft yet not tender. I had high hopes when I saw the cute moon sign on the house. And I was left disappointed- quite a tourist trap I would describe it as. All tables are tourists. The staff are super polite tho. It’s nearby the famous kill-bill restaurant 権八, you may check it out. And I saw another small beach-house vibe izakaya opposite to it that’s full house. Probably should have went to that one instead.

  • The staff were the friendliest and most accommodating! They seated me close to closing time and were kind enough to all come out and see me off to the taxi once finished. The “rosu” pork, goes without saying, was incredibly juicy and rich. Paired well with cabbage, mustard, and sauces was a truly wonderful lunch experience!
