The Ultimate 2 a.m. Jakarta Fix You stumble out of CGK at some ungodly hour, jet-lagged and hollowed out, craving something that feels like a warm embrace from a stranger who actually knows how to cook. Nasi Padang is Indonesia’s ultimate comfort food — bold, spicy, unapologetic, built for appetites both local and weary. Most of the soulful little warungs demand a native gut and perfect timing and while the bigger chains are safer for tourists, but good luck finding one that’s still alive after midnight. That’s where Restoran Garuda on Jalan Agus Salim earns its keep. While its daytime rival Sederhana shines as early as breakfast, Garuda stays open, steady, and unpretentious in the middle of the city’s late-night food chaos. The rendang is dark, rich, and properly fierce. The ayam pop arrives juicy and fragrant. And the keting — that addictive, chewy, spice-laced whatever-part-of-cow-it-is, the star of every Padang joint, is executed to perfection here, served piping hot, no matter if it’s 2 a.m. or 5. It’s not the most refined plate in Jakarta, but for reliability when your body clock is screaming and your stomach is louder, Garuda delivers. Four stars for being there when it counts.
4.0Thariq Ahmad· 6 months agoVery disappointing experience. The food was not tasty at all and definitely not worth the expensive prices they charge. For the quality and taste, the prices are ridiculously high. What made the experience even worse was the smoking situation. Guests at the table next to us were smoking heavily inside the air-conditioned dining area. The entire restaurant smelled of cigarette smoke, making it extremely uncomfortable to eat. The most disgusting part was seeing the nasi padang dishes displayed openly without any covers while people were smoking nearby. Imagine all that cigarette smoke circulating around and settling onto the exposed food. This is completely unhygienic and unacceptable for a restaurant serving ready-to-eat food. To make matters worse, the smoke was so strong that all of our clothes smelled like cigarettes after leaving the restaurant. We had to deal with the lingering smoke smell after that. Paying premium prices for mediocre food in a smoke-filled environment is unacceptable. The restaurant seriously needs to improve its food quality, hygiene standards, and enforcement of a no-smoking policy indoors.
1.0afiqah khairiri· 3 months agoVisited during weekend lunch time. The place is not full, but they seems to order a lot of online orders. The buffet is clean and orderly with menus that looked fresh. I ordered nasi rames with beef rendang. The beef is lean and the rendang spices taste good. Price was quite high for such place. Cutlery is old and service was a bit slow. Even just payment takes sometime.
