  • My experience at Lara Jongrang fell well short of expectations, particularly given the high price point and the standard of service anticipated from a fine dining establishment. While the security personnel were welcoming, the rest of our visit was plagued by disorganization and inattentive service. There were six of us in our party for this dinner, and throughout the evening, no staff members checked in on our table to see if everything was to our liking; we were essentially seated, served, and left entirely unattended. Although another large group was present, the staff appeared entirely overwhelmed, visibly uncoordinated, and inadequately trained to handle larger gatherings. The meal itself presented several notable issues. I ordered three drinks, but only two were delivered, yet I was charged for all three. The dining pace was severely disrupted when our rice—ordered for five people—was omitted and only brought out after I had to actively request it, by which point the rest of our food was nearly finished. Compounding this, the portion of rice meant for five guests was served in a single, surprisingly small traditional bamboo bowl. We also ordered additional lamb and chicken satay to accompany the belated rice, but it never arrived. No explanation or apology was offered at the time; instead, we had to track down the staff ourselves to inquire about our missing food. Furthermore, the overall food portions were small for the price, and the culinary execution was mediocre at best. To their credit, the management did attempt an apology with complimentary fruit as we were finishing our bill and preparing to leave, but the gesture felt too little, too late. I was willing to pay fine dining prices for a complete, worthwhile hospitality experience, but unfortunately, the service and execution fell entirely short of the mark.

  • Restaurant decorations feels like walking through a museum. Many beautiful pieces to admire. The overall interior is marred by a very basic plain room interior which could be vastly improved with historical textural elements that hails from Indonesia. The temple background ambient music is beautifully selected giving a mysterious but serene theme. The food is perfectly spiced and seasoned. Some dishes were presented spectacularly while others were a bit plain. Vegetable dishes are superb as well as the very tender and rich beef randang. Soups are excellent. A little guess a long way. The chicken and the stewed fish was dry and stringy which is prevalent in Indonesia for whatever reason. If they can prepare the meat to be as soft and tender as the beef randang it would garner five stars.

  • The restaurant feels like a museum with a religious feeling, they also play almost-too-eerie music but I kinda enjoy it, it adds to the atmosphere. They take reservations without deposits and the food didn't take long to arrive. For a fine dining restaurant, I would say their price range is not too expensive. Highly recommend the lamb sate. Portions are HUGE.

  • This place is absolutely astonishing, it felt like I was on a tour in a historic museum that also included great food. The interior is steeped in cultural tradition, so make sure you have a tour around the place, taking in the details. The food is local, lots of Javanese dishes, all of them delicious. 10/10, no notes.
