The Pizza Bar on 38th is a omakase-style pizza experience located in the Mandarin Oriental, Nihonbashi, Tokyo. The restaurant is on the 38th floor of the hotel (thus the name), and is easily accessible via a wide range of transport options including metro and bus. Upon entering the restaurant, you will first pass by another Italian restaurant before being seated at the pizza bar. The pizza bar offers an intimate 8-seat dining experience, with a modern and artistic atmosphere. The restaurant staff are incredibly kind, assisting with any questions you may have or drink requests. The chefs crafting and serving the pizzas are also very friendly and happy to discuss any questions regarding the food. The pizza course ranges from 6-8 slices of pizza depending on the time of your visit. It is also accompanied by an appetiser and dessert + petit fours. The corn-based appetiser I enjoyed was a cold and refreshing start to the meal, featuring a light corn soup and cubed Hokkaido scallop with caviar. In terms of the pizzas, each meal consists of a few classic pizzas and a few seasonal flavours. The classic flavours involve delicious ones like the margherita with mozzarella and jamon (my personal favourite), which the seasonal flavours may include local flavours like Wagyu and sea urchin. I really enjoyed the airy and perfectly cooked pizza dough that was consistent through the entire meal. The blend of flavours struck a great balance between classics done right and exciting new flavours, all of which contributed to an amazing experience. Overall, I recommend The Pizza Bar on 38th to anyone interested in a delicious omakase-style pizza experience.
5.0Ryan Khor· a month agoIf you are a pizza lover you should make sure to get a reservation at the pizza bar. All ingredients are fresh and sourced from Japan. The pizza dough is light and thanks to the omakase concept you get to try 6 different pizza - some classics and some seasonal. My favorite was the spinach crostino. The chefs prepare the pizza in front of you and explain each flavor. The atmosphere is light and friendly. All the staff was incredibly kind. I am definitely coming back!
5.0Laura Candido· 7 months agoWhen I first heard about this place, I balked at the price. ¥17,600? Per person ?? For pizza?!? I’m a New Yorker; I grew up with a slice costing $1.25! (It ended up costing ¥20,240 person after the 15% service charge was added.) But we had a gift certificate to the Mandarin Oriental, so we decided to use it here, and we did not regret it. The vast majority of the food was amazing (I didn’t like the seafood pizzas, but my husband did). I liked that the chef explained the special ingredients, and where they are sourced. I appreciate the fact that the restaurant uses products from local farmers. It was interesting to see a chef in fine dining lean so hard into amateur photography and social media by customers as he (and his sous chef) held up each pizza pie for everyone to take pictures. I wish we could afford to come back to this place regularly!
4.0Peggy Chen· 4 months agoVisited on April 3, 2026, at 8 PM. Booked via the Tokyo Mandarin Oriental concierge. The omakase course featured a starter, 8 pizza slices, and dessert. Each slice came from a different 8-inch pizza shared among the 8 counter guests, making the overall portion quite light.
