  • Visiting from NYC and booked dinner at the chef's counter based on research and a friend's recommendation. August is doing some of the more interesting Indonesian fine dining in Jakarta right now — modern technique, but the flavors stay recognizably Nusantara. The tasting menu is $85, which for the number of courses and the level of plating is genuinely good value; you're paying for craft, not for a room. The space itself is dark, moody, candlelit — the kind of low light that makes food photography a struggle but makes conversation easy. We were seated right at the chef's counter, looking straight into the open kitchen, which meant we spent half the meal watching chef Ardika Dwitama and his team working the dessert line. Good theater, and he's easy on the eyes too, not gonna lie. Menu-wise, the through-line felt distinctly Manadonese to me — woku shows up more than once, and even dessert leaned into that Manado-adjacent spice and citrus profile rather than going generically sweet. Standouts were the pork belly woku with kalamansi (that skewer presentation was a nice touch), the laksa with octopus and smoked grapes — an unexpected but genuinely good pairing — and the ox cheek with spiced coconut and snake fruit, which had the kind of long-braised depth that needs a good sauce to land, and it did. The seared white fish with bilimbi and ginger flower was clean and confident, letting the fish do the talking. Dessert was a strawberry-moscato-verbena number which I appreciated. Drinks were a mixed bag. The wine list is thin — don't come here chasing a deep cellar. But the cocktail and mocktail program more than makes up for it: genuinely creative use of Indonesian ingredients, and the presentation matched the food's ambition course for course. One real ding on service: my partner has chocolate and caffeine allergies, and the kitchen wasn't able to accommodate — I ended up eating their portion for the affected courses. I'll give August some grace here since they're still new, but this is the kind of thing that separates a very good restaurant from one that's ready for the next tier. If they tighten up dietary accommodation, this becomes a genuinely top-tier booking. So if you have strict dietary requirements, you may want to look into it. In essence, worth to try, the food is on par with many Michelin starred restaurants that I visited in NYC. --- **Meal notes:** Mazaraat Bread · Banana Kerupuk, Sambal Roa · Lombok Fish, Hoisom, Pohpohan · Pork Belly Woku, Kalamansi · Scallop, Kedondong, Toasted Sesame · Sukun, Daikon, Mushroom Cuko · BTM Noodle, Cakalang, Jellyfish · Laksa, Octopus, Smoked Grapes · White Fish, Bilimbi, Ginger Flower · Ox Cheek, Spiced Coconut, Snake Fruit · Rice & Stew inspired by Labuan Bajo · Strawberry, Moscato Jelly, Verbena · Cendol, Nypa, Coconut Ice · 'Teh Kotak' · Small Sweets — Signature Menu, $85

  • This restaurant offers a world-class fine dining experience that elevates Indonesian ingredients to an extraordinary level of sophistication. Each dish beautifully accentuates local flavors, showcasing a mastery of technique that is truly on par with Michelin-starred establishments, in my opinions. The ambiance is equally refined, striking a perfect balance between modern elegance and warm, traditional comfort. The service was impeccable, the waiter was exceptionally attentive. Every element of the meal was executed with absolute precision, it was an extraordinary journey. It is an essential destination for anyone looking to celebrate the incredible depth and potential of Indonesian cuisine in a truly elevated setting. We had a blast, thank you.

  • A remarkable tasting menu restaurant in Sequis building. Easy to spot and very convenient. There are makn dining area, chef's table, and seats in front of the bar. Went here a couple of times - with friends and with my kid. Overall ambience feels lively despite the dim setting of the restaurant. Food is always delicious, creative with traditional touch - from start to finish. Loved the banana kerupuk with roa dipping sauce, lombok fish, wagyu striploin, and the sourdough ice cream. Paired with good selection of drinks from the bar. Prepare for approx. 2 hours to finish up the tasting menu ~ 12 different foods. Do budget for slightly longer time when taking the chef's journey. They checked for dietary restrictions i believe some of the restrictions can be accommodated. Service is excellent, with attentive staffs. Definitely in my Top 10 list of favorite Jakarta restaurants.

  • Last week we were unexpectedly longer in Jakarta. So we decided to try and get a table at August for our anniversary. We were lucky enough to get a spot. And let me start by saying August fulfilled all our expections. Let me start with the service. It is everything you expect from a fine dining experience. All the staff was super open, helpful and enthusiastic. Which creates this lovely warm atmosphere. Even one of the owners and the head chef came by our table for a chat. Next up is the food and drinks which were all delicious. The blend between indonesian ingredients and fine dining seems to deliver straight up flavor bombs. My only complaint is that i didnt want the dishes to end haha. Overall experience was a 10 out of 10. If you are into fine dining you definitely have to come here. August thanks for the lovely time and great food.
