Duddell’s is a dependable one‑Michelin‑star in Central whose real strengths are the setting, service and overall value rather than truly standout Cantonese cooking. The recent revamp split the concept into two distinct spaces: the main 3/F dining room, which feels bright, refined and slightly formal, and the 4/F Upper Room, designed as a more relaxed, lounge‑like space with its own bar and terrace. We booked the Upper Room and found the vibe chilled and sophisticated – a better fit for a grown‑up night out – while the downstairs room still feels ideal for family celebrations or more traditional fine dining. The food is well‑executed, reliable Cantonese and dim sum, but in a city full of exceptional Cantonese kitchens it doesn’t feel particularly distinctive or memorable compared with other one‑star or high‑end options. That said, the menu is well priced for the level and location, especially when you factor in drinks inclusions on some menus, which improves the overall value. If anything, the drinks programme impressed more than the food. The Upper Room’s cocktail list is creative, culturally rooted and confidently executed, and feels more interesting and contemporary than the kitchen’s relatively classic Cantonese lineup. Service was outstanding: attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable and quick to anticipate needs. Overall, Duddell’s is a solid, well‑priced one‑star with excellent service and a strong bar programme in a stylish, art‑filled space. The Cantonese food is consistent but not especially thrilling compared with the best in town. For a relaxed yet refined evening where drinks and atmosphere matter as much as the plate, the Upper Room is the smarter pick; for a more formal family dinner, the main dining room still makes sense.
4.0Andrea Mosca· a month agoWent to the upper room and enjoyed the set menu, with duck and dim sum add-ons! The food is great - high-quality, very tasty and beautifully presented. I thought the roasted goose pie with plum sauce was exceptional - so so yummy. We also had beijing duck with wrappers (very good) and some classic Canto dishes (also very good). The staff was super attentive and I liked the atmosphere - lively but not noisy! perfect to have conversations while enjoying fantastic Canto cuisine
5.0Meli· 3 months agoDuddell’s is an exceptional experience; especially the Upper Room. The food is beautifully executed, full of flavour, and thoughtfully presented, blending classic Cantonese cuisine with modern touches. The baked barbecued pork bun was a standout—perfectly caramelised, tender, and packed with depth. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the service was warm, attentive, and professional throughout. Their signature cocktails—especially their rum based creations—were beautifully balanced and a perfect match for the meal. Duddell’s is one of those rare places that gets everything right: food, service, ambience, and drinks. A must‑visit in Hong Kong, whether you’re entertaining guests or treating yourself to something special. I’ll definitely be back.
5.0Stef L· 5 months agoAlways wanted to try Duddel’s main restaurant as I’ve always eaten their delectable goose at the HK airport. Note that they have 2 floors, one for main dining on the 3rd and 4th floor is casual dining with Dim Sum. Ordered their bite sized 3 meat appetisers that consisted of BBQ Char Siew, roasted pork and chicken. Their char Siew was fatty, the way I like it. The beef brisket was so tender even though it was fried in a thin crisp batter; definitely need to try it. They also excelled in their beef pan fried buns, filling was peppery and was a nice addition to the meal. The fried crab was their signature and dipped in the vinegar it was a sublime dish
